Build confidence and self-esteem carefully

A process for reviewing inner patterns, practising assertiveness and relating to yourself more safely

Hypnotherapy for confidence and self-esteem with Fabio Morus works with how a person interprets themselves, responds to criticism, takes up space in relationships and handles social or professional situations. The process may combine Ericksonian hypnosis, guided imagery, CBT-informed tools, mental rehearsal, self-compassion and communication practice. It is not a promise of an instant new identity. The aim is to identify learned patterns, reduce paralysing self-criticism and build firmer, realistic and kinder responses.

What You'll Gain

Mapping self-criticism, avoidance and fear of judgement
Mental rehearsal for conversations, social exposure and assertiveness
Self-compassion and emotional regulation practices

How It Works

1

Self-concept mapping

Identifying inner narratives, social triggers and situations where confidence drops.

2

Building safety

Regulation resources to reduce self-criticism and increase presence before action.

3

Reframing and rehearsal

Hypnosis, visualisation and practices to experience firmer, more realistic responses.

4

Everyday integration

Small between-session steps to test assertiveness, boundaries and communication.

Who this page is for

This page is for people who criticise themselves often, avoid being seen, struggle to say no, feel ashamed when receiving attention or freeze when evaluated. It may also help people who notice that old experiences of rejection, comparison or pressure still influence current decisions.

The work does not assume a lack of willpower. Low self-esteem is often a combination of mental habits, emotional memories, social context and protective patterns that once made sense. A session aims to understand these patterns before proposing any confidence exercise or affirmation. This makes the work more respectful and more specific than simply repeating positive statements that the nervous system does not yet believe.

Safety limits and when to seek clinical care

Seek a psychologist, doctor or psychiatrist if low self-esteem comes with depression, panic, intense isolation, self-harm, thoughts of self-injury, eating-disorder symptoms, trauma or major disruption to daily functioning. In those cases, hypnotherapy may be complementary support, but should not be the only care.

Fabio does not diagnose disorders or promise to remove painful experiences. The focus is on inner resources, self-language and automatic responses within safe limits. When risk, dissociation, severe symptoms or specialised treatment are present, the recommendation is to integrate or prioritise appropriate clinical support.

How sessions work in practice

The first step is mapping situations where confidence drops: public speaking, starting conversations, asking for something, setting boundaries, receiving feedback or taking responsibility. Fabio then helps identify the inner narrative attached to those situations, such as fear of being a burden, feeling inadequate or expecting judgement.

In clinical hypnosis, sessions may use mental rehearsal, memory reframing, metaphors, future pacing, safety anchors and self-compassion practices. Between sessions, small exercises help turn insight into behaviour: a clearer conversation, a decision less guided by fear or a more balanced response to criticism.

What to expect from the first session

The first session is used to understand goals and limits. Some clients seek confidence for a specific situation; others want to change an old pattern of self-criticism. In both cases, the plan needs to be observable and realistic, with signs of progress such as more clarity, less rumination and greater ability to act despite discomfort.

Self-esteem changes usually happen in layers. There may be early relief from naming patterns, but consistency comes from practice and integration in real life. When a person needs ongoing therapy, trauma assessment or psychiatric support, that is discussed with respect and transparency. The aim is to help the person leave with clearer language, safer next steps and a realistic way to notice progress between sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between self-esteem and confidence?
Self-esteem involves your inner relationship with your own value. Confidence involves your perceived ability to act in specific situations. Hypnotherapy may work with both together.
Are results permanent?
Permanence cannot be promised. The goal is to build more consistent resources and patterns that are practised and integrated into real life.
Does it work for shyness or social anxiety?
It may support some cases, but intense social anxiety deserves clinical assessment. The plan depends on symptom intensity, safety and impact on daily life.
How long until I notice changes?
It varies. Some people notice clarity quickly; consistent behavioural changes depend on the goal, history and between-session practice.
